Zanzibar is the semi-autonomous part of Tanzania in East Africa Known as the Spice Island. Zanzibar’s Indian Ocean offers world class watersports including Scuba diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing and sailing on traditional local dhows. On the coast, waves break over coral reefs and sand bars offshore, and low tide reveals small pools of starfish, small minnows, and anemones. That said, the Chole Island Marine Park just off Stone Town – and nearby Prison and Snake Islands – make a refreshing day-trip and a good break from exploring the winding passageways of the old city. The town is also a home to numerous historical and cultural sites, including Makusurani graveyard (where many of the islands previous Arab rulers are buried), House of Wonders (a four story building which was the first place on the islands with electrical lights), Hamamni and Kidichi Persian Baths (the first public baths on the island), Dunga Ruins (Ruins of a palace built in the 15th century by the rulers of the time), and the Peace Memorial Museum, which serves a national historical museum detailing the island’s.
